Research Interests:
Dr. Yang’s research focuses on precision agriculture and remote sensing applications in agriculture, including quantification of within-field variability using soil sensors and yield monitors, management of soil fertility using variable rate technology, development and testing of airborne multispectral and hyperspectral imaging systems, estimation of crop yield and detection of crop diseases and insects with multispectral and hyperspectral imagery, and monitoring and mapping of invasive weeds on rangeland and wetland ecosystems using airborne and satellite imagery and geographic information systems.
Professional Activities:
Dr. Yang is a member of four professional societies and holds various committee assignments. He serves as an editor or associate editor for five technical journals, as a reviewer for 30 technical journals, and as a technical expert or panelist for several international research programs. He co-chaired and served as academic chair for international conferences, served as President of the Association of Overseas Chinese Agricultural, Biological and Food Engineers (AOC) in 2007-2008. He is honorary director and professor of Precision Agriculture Laboratory at Northwest A&F University and chair of academic committee for Yangling International Academy of Modern Agriculture.
