Education Background:
Bachelor of Agronomy majoring in forestry at Northwest Forestry University in 1982 and Master of Agromony majoring in forest ecology at Northwest Forestry University in 1985, and Doctor rerum naturalium technicarum majoring in ecology at Agricultural University Vienna, Austria in 1993.
Working Experiences:
Assistant at Northwest Forestry University from 1985 to 1987; lecturer at Northwest Forestry University from 1988 to 1989; associate professor at Northwest Forestry University from 1993 to 1997; professor at Northwest Forestry University in 1998 and visiting professor at the University of Vermont of USA from June to September 1998; professor at Northwest A&F University since 1999. Now he is also the head of Qinling National Forest Ecosystem Research Station and a member of the Discipline Appraisal Group of the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council of China.
Research Interests:
His researches focus on forest ecology, plant ecophysiology and landscape ecology, especially in nutrient and carbon balance of forest ecosystem, water balance in woody plants and ecoinformatics. He published more than 90 papers in Chinese, English and German in international and Chinese journals, and awarded five prizes for scientific progress at provincial level. His research grants mainly come from National Natural Science Foundation of China, Ministry of Science and Technology of China, Ministry of Education of China and State Forestry Administration of China.
Professional Activities:
He is a reviewer of scientific papers for Journal of Plant Ecology, Acta Ecologia Sinica, Acta Bot. Boreal.-Occident. Sin., Climate Research, etc. He visited nearly 100 universities and institutes in North America, South America, Europe, Asia and Oceania, and has collaborations with many foreign peers. As a visiting professor he did research on hydraulic conductivity in plants at the University of Vermont in 1998. From April 1999 to May 1999 he attended a Training Course for Leadership Issues in 21st Century held by USDA Forest Service, Pacific Northwest Region Portland. He took part in cooperation with the consultants from GWB of Germany on training course, evaluation and consulting in the field for the Sino-German Afforestation Project in Western Shaanxi financed by KFW of Germany from April 1994 to December 1996 and for the Sino-German Afforestation Project in Northern Shaanxi financed by KFW of Germany since December 1998.
