Research Interest:
Conduct independent, original and advance R and D studies in the field of wood anatomy, wood quality and non-wood forest products (NWFP), viz., gums, resins, latex, bast fibers, dye-producing plants, bamboos, rattan and woody vines.
Among the notable R and D / S and T contributions and involvement of Forester Ella included the generation of technical information/technologies on the utilization of non-wood forest products (NWFP). As leading scientist in NWFP research that led to development and extensive adoption of efficient utilization technologies particularly exudates-producing plants that led to the formulation of standards and guidelines towards improved methods of harvesting resins such as Manila copal (Almaciga resin), Manila elemi (Canarium or Pili resin), balau (Apitong resin), and oil of palosapis (Palosapis resin), thereby prolonging the life of trees and maximizing resin production; for generating scientific knowledge and technical skills in NWFP utilization that contributed to poverty reduction and livelihood enhancement among the more deprived sectors of our society, particularly the indigenous communities.
