Education Background:

Dr. Petitclerc holds degrees from Sherbrooke (B.Sc. and MBA), Laval (B.Sc. and M.Sc.) and Michigan State (Ph.D.) universities.

Working Experiences:

Dr. Petitclerc is currently Director General, Science and Technology Branch, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. Prior to rejoining AAFC in 2007, he worked as a dairy research scientist for 25 years in Sherbrooke and in the private sector as a founding senior associate of a consulting firm in the life science sector, and CEO of a start-up biopharmaceutical company. 

Research Interests:

animal production, biotechnology, intellectual property management, and science management.

Professional Activities:

Over the years, he served the scientific community in several capacities, including: adjunct professorships at Sherbrooke, McGill and Guelph universities; board member of the American Society of Animal Science and elected treasurer of the Federation of Animal Science Societies; member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Animal Science, Canadian Journal of Animal Science and Les Cahiers Agricultures in France; as well as member and chair of the Physiology Grant Selection Committee of NSERC (Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada) and member of the College of Reviewers for the Canada Research Chair. 

In 1992, he was a co-founder of the on-going joint American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) and European Association of Animal Production (EAAP) series of Workshops on Biology of Lactation in Farm Animals.  In 2002 and 2008, he played a key role in organizing the joint American Dairy Science Association (ADSA)/American Society of Animal Science (ASAS)/Canadian Society of Animal Science (CSAS) Scientific Annual Meeting held in Quebec City and Montreal, respectively. 

Dr. Petitclerc is author or co-author of 121 peer-reviewed articles, books, book chapters, patents, and gene bank disclosures as well as 179 popular press articles and presentations at scientific meetings.  During his career, he received several awards including the 1998 Canadian Association of Animal Breeders Award for Excellence in Genetics and Physiology, and the 1999 Sherbrooke University MBA Faculty Award for Academic Excellence.
