Modern Sensing Technology for Real-time,In-field Crop Growth Monitoring

Plant growth status is an important attribute to evaluate plant health and nutrient level, to predict yield, and to determine variable rate treatments for crop. Various parameters were used to describe the plant growth, such as plant height, diameter of stem, color of canopy, etc. However, real-time measurements of these parameters under field conditions are not easy. Complicate field conditions including soil, plant, weather, and environment limit the capability and accuracy of sensing systems. This presentation will summarize the current technologies used for in-field crop growth monitoring and discuss the potential approaches on improving the effectiveness of these sensing technologies.
