Red soil covers approximately 1.14 million km2 in south-eastern China, which is one of the most important agricultural production areas of China. However,poor soil properties, unsuitable land use and soil management practices, have caused severe soil erosion. In this report, the main features, influencing factors, present situation and changes of soil erosion in hilly red soil region will be stated. Applying of the common water and soil conservation measures such as level trench, intercepting drain and piezoglypt, would be analyzed and evaluated. Based on the summary mentioned above, integration technique system of water protection, soil amelioration and forest culture were introduced as follows: (1) to strengthen slope runoff regulation and control by understanding slope erosion, (2) to better reduce red soil loss by employee of contour hedgerow, grass mulching and other control technologies, (3) to deeply explore the best restoration mode of vegetation communities for stimulating vegetation evolvement and control erosion in relict forest by investigation of land occupation condition and dominant species. At last, this report will discuss the common management modes of soil erosion and conservation, and propose the integrated utilization of kinds of water and soil control techniques in red soil region of China.
