The endiandric acids are a family of related polyketide derived natural products, and are unusual in that they are isolated from nature as racemates, implying the absence of enzymatic catalysis in the latter stages of their biosynthesis[1-2].
Herein, we have developed a very simple and efficient approach for the synthesis of the key precursor of the core of the endiandric acid H starting from the readily and abundantly available 3-butyn-1-ol in five linear steps with an overall yield of 40%.The expeditive synthesis of the key precursor would be an appropriate approach to the core of the endiandric acids. Our attention was drawn to application of this approach in the total synthesis of the endiandric acids H, and the results will be reported in due course.
