Plant- and fungus-derived natural products are known to possess various bioactivities. Inspired by their biological activities and enzyme inhibition, my group has studied the total syntheses and modification of several bioactive natural products including chloropuupehenone, myriceric acid A, pyripyropene A, triacine C, and quercetins. Through in vitro and in vivo biological screening and enzyme inhibition studies, a number of bioactive molecules were discovered affecting various diseases including diabetes, microbial infection, pulmonary arterial hypertension, Alzheimer’s disease, breast cancer, ischemia/reperfusion injury, and viral infection. These topics will be discussed.
