Phenomics is a new research frontiers, in which the focus is to study phenotypic responses to environmental conditions and to link such responses to genetic and molecular traits. Imaging and reflectance profiling are research technologies, which enable real-time, non-destructive, and quantitative information about phenotypic responses, and they are therefore widely used in phenomicsresearch. As an example of a phenomics study, I will present hyperspectral imaging results from a recent study of two insect pests to pesticides, including a naturally-derived plant extract. The mainobjective with this presentation is to demonstrate how current phenomics research, and hyperspectral imaging technologies in particular, should be considered vitally relevant to modern research into natural-product-based insecticide discovery.
