According to “The status of Chinese nutrition and chronic disease report 2015”, the residents chronic disease deaths accounted for 86.6% of the total deaths. Among these chronic diseases, the population of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes and cancer had increased significantly and became the leading factors to threat resident’s health. The results of the assessment on human health impact by WHO indicated that dietary and nutritional factors on health are more effective than medical factors. Lipid is one of the three major nutrients. The consumption of lipid quantity and quality is closely related to the occurrence and development of chronic disease. At present, Chinese lipid consumption per capita reached 63.5g which is much higher than the recommendation level of 25-30g by "Chinese dietary guidelines (2016)". Due to the impact of lipid import products, the consumption structure of lipid on saturated fatty acid content increases significantly, the imbalance ratio of n-6 /n-3 fatty acids uptake and the excessive processing on lipids have led to a significant decline of nutrients and the risk of safety factor. Therefore, the lipid market requires an urgent demand of the multi-function and personalized development in lipid supply from “eat full” to “eat healthy”. Functional lipids include functional fatty acids, lipid concomitants and their derivatives. The research of functional lipids focus on functional lipid structure analysis, functional factor mining, efficient preparation technology, the mechanism of molecular nutrition and nutritional health products development. Functional lipids have become an important part of major health industry in China. With the rapid development of the social economy and the implementation of the "Healthy China 2030" plan by the central government, the development of the lipid health industry put forward higher requirements. Lipid health industry should combine with accurate nutrition, nutriomics, metabolomics, lipomics, big data, cloud computing and other new technologies and new means to continuously improve the "human-oriented" functional lipids industry. Furthermore, the personalized and real-time precise nutrition intervention and conditioning level in lipid health industry are required to promote the rapid development of functional lipid health industry and to provide technology support for improving human nutrition and health levels.
