Research Interests:
Genetic improvement of forage, turf and bioenergy crops by transgenic approaches. The main aspects of my research program include: establishment of efficient genetic transformation systems; cloning of potentially useful genes and promoters; and generation and characterization of transgenic plants with improved agronomic characteristics. The target species include both grasses (switchgrass, fescue, ryegrass, maize, etc.) and legumes (alfalfa, white clover, Medicago truncatula, soybean). The target traits include forage quality, drought tolerance, biomass yield, biofuel production, phosphorus uptake, development and flowering.
Professional Activities:
Published more than 80 papers on biotechnological improvement of forage, turf and bioenergy crops.
Filed 10 patent applications on genetic improvement of grasses and legumes, 7 patents have been granted.
Associate Editor, In Vitro Cellular and Developmental Biology – Plant.
