The food security in Central Asia faces challenges while there is great potential to increase grain yield. Central Asia is geographically close to China and is also the place where the "Belt and Road" initiative was proposed. Although there are significant differences in the level of agricultural development between Central Asia and China, there are significant complementarities between Central Asia and China in terms of agricultural resources. Theoretically, China and Central Asia are natural to conduct agricultural cooperation, with great potential for cooperation. In practical, the agricultural investment environment in Central Asia is lower than the average for countries along the Belt and Road. And agricultural cooperation between Central Asia and China still faces challenges, such as geopolitical competition, nationalism, and poor infrastructure. At present, the scale of agricultural cooperation between the two sides is relatively small, and cooperation could also face many difficulties in the future. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the alignment of agricultural development strategies between Central Asia and China, implement responsible agricultural investment, ensure the smooth and effective localization of agricultural technology transfer, and promote the optimization and upgrading of local agricultural value chains. Based on these actions, we are looking forward to deepening agricultural cooperation between Central Asia and China, filling the gap between ideal and reality.
