Traditional villages are the "living fossil" of Chinese rural historical culture and natural heritage. On the one hand, the traditional villages faced with a large outflow of young labor force and the decline of economy, traditional culture, customs, etc. On the other hand, the ecological environment, clean air and humanistic feelings of the traditional villages become the scarce resources, which attracts many tourists as well as people who would like to settle down in the village.
The report introduces the case of Da Mo Yu village of Kunming city, Yunnan province. Once Da Mo Yu village was a typical time-honored village inhabited by ethnic minority group, relatively poor and declining. But after 2017, the idea and practice of “Eco-community” and “Green life” has attracted more and more people from outside, including some artists, educators and social workers, some of them settled here for a long time, who together with the native villagers, continue to rebuild the traditional culture and improve Eco-community. Until 2022, Da Mo Yu village became prosperous and it still maintains the characteristics of a traditional village. The aim of the report is to explore the path for revitalization of traditional villages, and to provide reference for the similar type of the villages.
