To Directors of IUFRO Member Organizations
NOMINATION OF CANDIDATES For THE MARCUS WALLENBERG PRIZE
Dear Colleagues
As a Past President of IUFRO, as the former chairman of the Marcus Wallenberg Prize Selection Committee, and as a current member of the Board of the Marcus Wallenberg Foundation, I am seeking your assistance in identifying outstanding scientists in your organization, country or region to be nominated for the Prize.
The Prize is the most prestigious recognition of scientific excellence in rewarding a single research breakthrough that has actual or potential impacts on the forestry or forest products industries. In monetary terms the Prize is significant (2 million Swedish Crowns) and it is honorific since the Prize is presented at a glowing ceremony in Stockholm by His Majesty, the King of Sweden. In addition it brings enormous credit and reputation to the winners and to their employing institutions. (The Prize may be shared by up to four persons if they worked at the same problem and made important contributions to the solution.)
A full description of the Prize is given in the Foundation’s web-site (www.mwp.org) together with the simple nomination procedure. I urge you to give this your serious attention. As forestry and forest products are once more in the global public spotlight we must take every opportunity of recognizing good research and encouraging further research and development for the benefit of the profession and all stakeholders in forests and forest industries.
If you have queries that cannot be answered by the web-site, please feel free to write to me or the Foundation Secretary, Mr Per Broman, at the above address.
Yours sincerely
Professor Jeff Burley
